2023. 6-inch iReader Light 3 e-reader with AI announced



iReader has unveiled the Light 3 e-reader, targeting a younger audience, as previously speculated. The new Light 3 e-reader sports a 6-inch E Ink Carta 1200 screen and features animated page-turning. Remarkably lightweight at just 149 grams, it stands as one of the lightest options available. iReader has incorporated AI dynamic refresh technology and an independent display chip into the Light 3. Furthermore, this e-reader boasts a next-generation display IC, resulting in a 20 percent faster response time and a 15 percent improvement in contrast, according to iReader. With a 1700mAh battery, it can endure up to 40 days on a single charge and it offers a Type-C port for swift recharging and data transfer. Additional features of the Light 3 include built-in speakers and microphones, with iReader noting support for AI recitation.


2023. Pocketbook Inkpad 4 gets 7.8-inch screen


Pocketbook has released new Pocketbook Inkpad 4 e-reader. It features a 7.8-inch E Ink Carta 1200 display and temperature-controlled backlighting. The device has 32 GB of internal storage, built-in speakers for listening to audiobooks and IPX8-rated waterproof body. Other features include USB-C port rotation sensor, dual-core processor, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth and 2000 mAh battery. However, the overall design of PocketBook InkPad 4 is quite attractive and similar in features to PocketBook Era, which is generally very good, except for the horribly blurry screen. The new E Ink Carta 1200 screens have higher contrast, but this is irrelevant when a smooth, cloudy layer is applied over it.


2022. Onyx Boox upgrades its note-taking ereader Nova 5



Onyx Boox has refreshed its Nova5 e-reader, which features a 7.8-inch E Ink Carta 1200 display with a 300 PPI resolution of 1872 x 1404. Under the hood is a 2.0GHz Qualcomm octa-core processor paired with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage. It operates on Android 11 and supports external memory expansion of up to 512 GB. The e-reader offers 2.4G and dual-band 5G wireless connectivity. It is powered by a 2000 mAh battery. Additional features of the Nova5 include a highly responsive microphone and a dual-speaker setup. The page turn buttons are located on the left side. The device includes a Type-C port and weighs a convenient 240 grams. The Nova5 is priced at $277 and comes with the BooxPen Plus.


2022. Onyx Boox Leaf 2 gets Android 11 and bigger battery



Onyx Boox introduces the Leaf2, a 7-inch E Ink reader with a Carta 1200 panel featuring a 300 PPI resolution of 1680 x 1264. The e-reader is equipped with 2 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage, placing it among the highest in its category. Additionally, it offers the option to expand storage by up to 512 GB via external means. At the heart of the device is a 2.0 GHz Qualcomm processor. It is powered by a 2000 mAh battery, which should provide several days of use before needing a recharge. It operates on Android 11 and supports 2.4G Wi-Fi and 5G connectivity. Other features include a USB Type-C port, an integrated microphone and single-speaker audio support. Weighing just 180 grams, the Leaf2 is extremely easy to handle and use. It also has a set of buttons for Power and Page Turn functions. The e-reader is priced at $205.


2022. Kyobo Book Centre launches Sam 10 Plus e-note-reader



The Kyobo Book Centre, the largest bookstore chain in South Korea has launched a new e-note device in the form of the Sam 10 Plus. It’s a 10-inch E Ink e-reader the company already offers. Unlike the previous Sam 7.8, the Sam 10 Plus offers stylus pen support and can be used to jot down notes or annotate on e-books if you want to. Powering the device is a 3900 mAh battery which should be adequate to sustain operations for a few days at least, if not weeks. The company is claiming three hours of plug-in time via Type-C port for the e-note to recharge fully. Another nice feature of the device is that it runs Android 12 and hence allows for suitable apps to be downloaded and installed from the Play Store. E-Book formats that the device supports include ePUB, PDF, TT, ZIP, to name a few. The e-note also comes with an integrated speaker and offers file manager support. The price is around $265 USD.


2020. Xiaomi launches Moann inkPad X e-reader



Xiaomi has unveiled the Moann inkPad X e-reader—a device with e-Ink technology that runs on Google Android 8 and allows you to sideload your own apps. The InkPad X boasts a 10.3-inch E INK Carta HD display with a resolution of 1600 x 1200 and 250 PPI. It includes a front-lit screen and a color temperature adjustment system. Inside, it features an ARM quad-core Cortex-A7 processor running at 1.8GHz, paired with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. It has USB-C, dual-band (2.4GHz/5GHz) WiFi and Bluetooth 5.0. Additionally, it comes with a speaker and a microphone. The device is powered by a robust 3,800 mAh battery.
