2026. Boox launched wireless remote Tappy

Boox has released Bluetooth remote Tappy - wireless device that allows users to turn e-book pages, scroll through articles and control audiobooks. The remote has three modes: Reading Mode (for reading page by page; most e-reading apps allow for easy page turning), Browse Mode (allows you to scroll content up and down vertically, ideal for browsing news or long articles), Multimedia Mode (for audiobooks - functions as a remote control for skipping to the previous or next track). On Boox e-readers with firmware version 4.2 or higher, you can customize the button functions to suit your preferences. Thus, a double-tap or a long hold can perform different actions. Tappy retails for $25.99.

2026. Kobo Libra's update improved Kobo Remote stability

Kobo has released a firmware update for Kobo Libra 2 that improves Bluetooth connection stability when using Kobo Remote. Following the release of Kobo Remote, there were numerous reports of intermittent connection drops with Kobo Libra 2 and this update attempted to fix the issue. However, even after the update, there are still reports of excessive battery drain when using the remote. Kobo also plans to release a similar update for other older models. It's possible that older Bluetooth models have specific quirks that cause them to consume more power.

2025. Kobo firmware update adds support for Kobo Remote

Kobo has released new firmware for the new Kobo Libra Color, Kobo Clara Color and Kobo Clara BW models, as well as the first-generation Elipsa. This firmware adds support for the new Kobo Remote Page Turner feature - the remote control device for turning pages that Kobo will release later this year. If you're unsure how to use a remote control for an e-reader, take a look at the image. Such remotes from Chinese manufacturers have been around for a while, but they're unreliable and require constant reconnection. The update also adds a new Bluetooth settings icon to the top of the status bar for easy access (since the remote works via Bluetooth).
