2024. Kobo has introduced the Kobo Clara BW E-reader

Kobo has introduced an updated version of its 6-inch e-reader Kobo Clara BW. It has a dark mode and ComfortLight PRO function for adjusting brightness and reducing blue light. The device has only 16 GB of internal memory and no SD card, so it's not very suitable for audiobook lovers. Although, it does have an external speaker and Bluetooth 5.0 for headphones. As usual with Kobo readers, you can buy audiobooks and e-books in the built-in Kobo store. The USB-C port will allow you to transfer your own content to the e-reader and charge it. The device is powered by an inexpensive 1500 mAh battery and has very compact dimensions of 112 x 160 x 9.2 mm and weighs only 174 g. The cost of the new model is $ 130

2023. Rakuten unveiled Kobo Libra 2

Rakuten Kobo announced the launch of Kobo Libra 2, an ergonomically designed e-reader with physical buttons and Bluetooth support for listening audiobooks. The new model features increased memory and a faster 7-inch E Ink touchscreen. A new dark mode lets you view white text on a black background and adjust the color temperature. Libra's ergonomic design allows one-handed operation and is suitable for hours of comfortable reading. Kobo Libra 2 is completely waterproof, so you can continue reading while poolside. Kobo Libra 2 is available for $250, with the optional SleepCover for an additional $50.

2023. Dark Mode is now available on new Pocketbook e-readers

The new firmware version 6.8 adds a dark mode to the Pocketbook Era, Pocketbook InkPad 4 and Pocketbook InkPad Color 2. This feature is displaying white text on a dark background that doesn't clash with dark surroundings. You can also invert book illustrations while reading in dark mode. Many avid readers have found that dark mode helps reduce eye strain from a bright screen. Dark mode is also very useful for reading at night, as it reduces the amount of blue light (which can contribute to eye strain) emitted by the screen. Additionally, firmware version 6.8 adds the ability to customize the control panel to suit your preferences by adding the most frequently used controls (e.g., Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, task manager, airplane mode, sync, G-sensor, lock, power off, screenshot, library search and shortcuts to apps).

2022. New basic Kindle offers premium Paperwhite features for under $100

Amazon has introduced a new 6-inch Kindle, touting it as its "lightest and most compact" e-reader to date. Although this device is the latest addition to Amazon's standard Kindle lineup, its features are more comparable to the $139.99 Paperwhite model. It incorporates several attributes from the premium range, including a 300ppi high-resolution display for "crystal-clear text and images" (up from 167ppi), a dark mode and USB-C charging. Additional enhancements include a battery life of up to six weeks per charge and 16GB of storage, which is twice the capacity of its 2019 predecessor. The adjustable front light has also been reinstated. Notably, this new Kindle is priced at $99.99 — just a $10 increase from the previous generation, making it an attractive option for anyone looking to upgrade from an older model that lost the capability to browse, borrow or purchase books directly from Kindle Store last month.

2021. InkBOOK Calypso Plus e-reader is now available

The new inkBOOK Calypso Plus boasts an E INK Carta HD capacitive touchscreen with front lighting and a color temperature system. The device also includes a dark mode feature. Inside, it has a Quad-core ARM Cortex-A35 processor, 1GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, but lacks an SD card slot. It offers WIFI, Bluetooth and is powered by a 1900 mAh battery. It supports EPUB, PDF (reflow) with Adobe DRM (ADEPT), MOBI and audiobooks following a recent update. You can connect Bluetooth-enabled headphones, earbuds or an external speaker. Available in various colors, such as rose gold, black, red, blue, gray and yellow, it is priced at €125.00.
