2014. Readk.it - browser-based EPUB reading system

Readk.it is a free, open-source browser-based reading platform designed to bypass the complex and often expensive process of preparing ebook content for various proprietary delivery systems. Readk.it enables users to leverage a browser’s display features to customize how the content is rendered, regardless of the device used. The Readk.it Solo component converts EPUB books into a single HTML file that can be sent via email and read offline. Readk.it demonstrates confidence in the growing capabilities of modern web design to deliver rich content flexibly across different devices. According to Jason Darwin, the platform’s developer, Readk.it aims to encourage ebook developers to adopt "responsive design techniques," given the proliferation of devices with advanced web browsers (which offer richer functionality than most proprietary reading systems).
