Top 5 speed-reading apps for Android and iPhone

July 30, 2025 | Author: Maria Lin

Speed reading apps are becoming increasingly popular in today's fast-paced world. These apps allow users to read faster and absorb more information in less time. Here are the top 5 apps that will help you learn to read faster (or will break your eyes).

1. Spritz

Spritz is one of the most popular speed reading apps. It uses a technique called Rapid Serial Visual Presentation (RSVP) to flash words one at a time in the center of the screen. Spritz claims that this technique allows you to read up to 1,000 words per minute, which is well above the average reading speed of most people. Spritz is available on both Android and iOS devices and offers a wide range of customization options. Users can adjust the reading speed, font size and background color. The app also offers a wide variety of reading material, including classic literature, news, articles and non-fiction.

2. ReadQuick

3. Flash Reader

Flash Reader is something between Spritz and ReadQuick. Instead of showing words or sentences one by one, Flash Reader quickly displays groups of words in a row, allowing users to consume one thought at a time. Flash Reader is available on both Android and iOS. You can import PDF and ePub books, as well as TXT, RTF, DOC, DOCX, AZW (Kindle), ODT (OpenDocument) and MOBI documents. Or you can sync articles with the InstaPaper service (for delayed reading of Internet content).

4. Outread

Outread can both show words sequentially in the center of the screen or highlight words in regular text, helping your eyes focus. The developers claim that while reading, your eyes often return to words, even when you have already learned them. The text highlighting technique teaches your eyes to move more efficiently through the text. It sets a rhythm, reducing unnecessary jumps and distractions. In addition, the application offers four exercises that improve your peripheral vision, eidetic memory, short-term memory and the ability to structure information. Outread is available on iOS and Mac computers.

5. Spreeder

Sreeder is may be the best speed reading app, available on every platform, but it is very expensive - €47. It is positioned as an app for business productivity. Spreeder uses the latest advances in RSVP technique and also includes hundreds of premium courses on speed reading, vocabulary development, brain training, career development, technology and much more. Thus Spreeder gives you the advantage you need to achieve personal heights and take your life and career to the next level.
