Kobo Aura vs Kobo Clara

April 05, 2026 | Author: Dhaval Parekh
Kobo Aura and Kobo Clara are both universal mid-range e-readers. They support EPUB, PDF and other popular e-book formats, feature touchscreen with a backlit for reading in the dark, allow to adjust text size and font, connect to Wi-Fi for book syncing. Naturally, both e-readers allow you to purchase books from Kobo Store and also access local libraries via OverDrive.

However, Kobo Aura is an older model, part of the previous generation of Kobo e-readers. It has a lower screen resolution (1024x758), less uniform backlighting, lower-contrast display, plastic case with glossy elements and heavier body. It also responds more slowly when turning pages.

Kobo Clara is the direct successor to the Aura line, meaning it's designed for the consumers who want a lightweight and affordable e-reader without unnecessary features. It features a 1448×1072 screen resolution, higher contrast and text clarity, more compact matte case that's pleasant to the touch and faster interface. Some models also feature ComfortLight PRO technology with adjustable color temperature. Clara supports new Kobo operating system features, such as reading statistics.
