Kavita vs Suwayomi

December 24, 2025 | Author: Maria Lin
Kavita and Suwayomi are both programs that allow you to read manga and comics offline. They run on Windows and Linux, support standard comic file formats, allow you to change the frame order and direction of reading (right to left and left to right), provide the ability to organize a library, add custom tags and metadata.

But Kavita is a more universal program - it supports not only manga, but also books and magazines. This is a self-hosted system with a web interface in which you can not only read books, but also create collections, add users and setup access rights. It can be integrated with other applications via API, enables automatic scanning and updating of the library.

Suwayomi - is focused exclusively on manga and comics. The program appeared as an alternative to Tachiyomi - the free open-source application for reading manga on Android. The program has a server part (for PC) and client part (for phone). It integrates with online manga sources and downloads books from there. The client part has rather minimalistic interface and settings.
