KPDF vs Okular

March 28, 2026 | Author: Maria Lin
KPDF and Okular are both free, open-source PDF viewers. They are both part of the KDE ecosystem (a shell that makes working in Linux visual), support annotations (notes, highlights), have a tabbed interface, allow searching for text within a book, support zooming and page rotation.

However, KPDF is an older and more basic program. It has a limited feature set compared to modern software and very simple interface. It is primarily used in older versions of KDE (pre-KDE 4).

Okular is a modern and actively maintained viewer. In addition to PDF, it supports other formats, such as EPUB, DjVu, FB2, CHM and comics. It offers advanced annotation and commenting tools, supports digital signatures, presentation and reading mode. In addition to Linux, Ocular is also available for Mac and Windows.
