Komga vs YACReader

December 19, 2025 | Author: Maria Lin
Komga and YACReader are both free comic book readers for Windows, macOS, Linux. They support standard comic book formats: CBZ, CBR and PDF (Komga also supports EPUB), allow you to customize the template and scale of the book view, track your reading progress (allow to continue from the last place). In addition to reader they allow you to organize your library: create collections, sort, search, etc.

But Komga is a self-hosted open-source media server that allows you to stream comics via a web interface or via OPDS to third-party mobile comic book reading apps. This means that you need to have some technical skills (of working with Docker) to install this program. Komga allows you to manage users, setup access rights, age filters and labels, has some unique features like duplicate page/file detection, synchronization with Kobo and KOReader.

YACReader is a (proprietary) desktop server + mobile comic book reader. It can import of books from Dropbox, iTunes, USB, cloud and network folders. It has a “guided reading” feature for reading panel by panel, with convenient navigation and panel mask. Unlike Komga, it can read comics in regular RAR and ZIP archives well.
