Kobo Mini vs Kobo Nia

May 09, 2026 | Author: Dhaval Parekh
Kobo Mini and Kobo Nia are both e-readers with an E-Ink touchscreen that mimics paper and resists glare in sunlight. They support popular book formats (including free EPUB/FB2 books), allow to customize fonts, margins, line spacing, search text, download books via Wi-Fi. Both devices are compact and convenient for travel and reading outdoors.

But Kobo Mini is an older model from 2012, designed as an ultra-compact e-reader with a 5-inch screen. It didn't yet have a built-in backlight, so it's only suitable for reading in adequate ambient light. It has only 2 GB of internal memory, but supports microSD cards for expanded storage. The screen only supports 16 shades of gray, so images in books are very blurry. The e-reader is also not suitable for PDFs and documents with complex formatting due to its small screen. Though it's significantly cheaper.

Kobo Nia is 2020 model with 6-inch E-Ink display that has higher resolution than the Mini, so text and images are displayed sharper. It features ComfortLight backlighting, making it comfortable to read in the dark or low light. Nia has 8 GB of internal memory, more modern interface and optimized power consumption, ensuring longer battery life.
