Kobo Forma vs Kobo Sage

April 06, 2026 | Author: Dhaval Parekh
Kobo Forma and Kobo Sage are both mid-sized mid-level e-readers. They feature 8-inch touchscreen with a built-in back-light and resolution of ~1440x1920 pixels. Both have physical buttons for turning pages and their bodies are IPX8 water-resistant. They share the same Kobo user interface and allow to purchase books from Kobo store and download free books via Wi-Fi (they support common e-book formats, such as EPUB).

However, Kobo Forma is an older model (released in 2018). It has less built-in storage by default (8 GB in the base version), but it does have a microSD card slot for expanding the memory. The charging port is the older microUSB, not USB-C. The Forma is lighter and thinner, making it easier to hold with one hand. Battery life is generally better due to the dim E Ink Mobius display on a plastic backing.

Kobo Sage is essentially the direct successor to the Forma, released in 2021. It has 32GB of built-in memory, more powerful processor and a USB-C port (a modern connector). It also supports Bluetooth for audio playback and voice reading. The Forma's screen has better brightness and contrast. It also supports stylus and note-taking.
