Kindle vs Wattpad in our news:

2025. Amazon added Recaps in Kindle for IOS

For fans of book series, remembering plots and characters after a long break from reading between new releases can be challenging. The new Recaps feature in Kindle works a bit like the “Previously…” section at the start of a new series episode. The feature was previously available on Kindle devices and is now available in Kindle app for iOS. It includes thousands of new bestselling books for now only in English. To see if a series has Recaps, look for the “View Recaps” button on the series page in your Kindle library. On Kindle devices, you can select “View Recaps” from the three-dot menu in the series group.

2020. Amazon discontinues the Kindle Cloud Reader

The Kindle Cloud Reader allowed to read ebooks via all major internet browsers for desktop, mobile and tablets. Over the course of the past week, Amazon has been pulling features away from it and it looks like it is on the verge of being discontinued. The only books you can read, are ones that have been previously downloaded, no new titles can be accessed. Ebooks from certain publishers with DRM cannot be opened anymore, even if you had previously downloaded them. There is a popup window that appears, notifying readers to download the Kindle app for iOS or Android. Amazon also pulled the ability to read books offline, you need a dedicated internet connection to read.

2012. Windows 8 launch: with Kindle, and without Nook

Today, Windows 8 officially launched worldwide with its new Windows Store—the primary destination for Windows 8 apps (the sole source for Windows RT tablets). And guess what? There is no Nook app available yet, neither pre-installed in Windows nor in the Store. Remember that Microsoft partnered with Barnes & Noble to form a joint venture to manage the Nook ecosystem. They also promised to develop the Nook app for Windows 8 by its launch, but they did not deliver. Meanwhile, the main competitor, Amazon's Kindle app, is already available in the Windows Store. Like the Kindle apps on other platforms, it automatically synchronizes your last page read, bookmarks, notes and highlights in each book. This means you can start reading a book on a Kindle e-reader and continue on a Windows 8 computer or tablet.
