Amazon's subscription platform for e-books, audiobooks, selected magazines and periodicals, offering the largest selection (5 million digital titles) at a reasonable price (around $12/month). Kindle Unlimited offers many books in the $3–$8 range (if purchased individually) so if you read two or three books a month, the subscription usually pays for itself. Books can be read and listened to on Kindle e-readers or in the free Kindle app on your computer, tablet or smartphone. However, not all bestsellers or new releases from major publishers are available. The subscription operates like a "library" - you can have a certain number of books at a time (usually up to 20 at a time), return them and borrow new ones.

Scribd content reaches and audience of 80 million people around the world every month.
Kindle Unlimited vs Scribd in our news:
2018. Amazon discounts Kindle Unlimited to compete against Scribd

Amazon is running a campaign where they are giving two months of access to Kindle Unlimited for 99 cents and it will automatically charge you $9.99 at the end of the promotion. Amazon has stated they are doing this because of World Book Day, but they are really trying to drive subscribers away from Scribd. Scribd provides unlimited ebook subscription service for $8.99 per month and readers have audiobooks and ebooks from all of the major publishers. Over the years Amazon did not have the support from major publishers, aside from a few specific titles. Most of their content stems from their Kindle Direct Publishing platform, so the overall quality of their ebook library suffers. The only way they can compete against Scribd is by offering tremendous discounts for people who don’t know any better.
2014. Scribd takes on Amazon - launches app for Kindle Fire

E-book subscription service Scribd has introduced a new app for Kindle Fire tablets, offering an alternative to Amazon's own Kindle e-book store. Scribd is already accessible on iOS and Android devices, as well as on the web, but this new Kindle Fire app represents its initial foray into e-readers designed specifically for books. “Since launching our subscription book service, readers globally have been requesting an app compatible with Kindle Fire," stated Trip Adler, CEO and cofounder of Scribd. "It’s one of the most popular reading devices available today and we want to allow our users to enjoy Scribd on any of their devices."
