Kindle Paperwhite
Kindle Paperwhite remains the best choice for most readers thanks to its excellent price-performance ratio. It features a crisp 7-inch display with a 300 ppi resolution and adjustable warm backlighting, on which text appears sharp and perfectly rendered, almost like ink on paper. The fast processor ensures smooth page turns and more fluid navigation, even when reading large PDFs and illustrated novels. The battery life lasts up to 12 weeks. Its thin case with IPX8 water resistance and light weight make it convenient for travel and commuting. Kindle Paperwhite is available in both Wi-Fi and cellular versions.

Tolino Vision
Tolino Vision is a (discontinued) clone of Kobo Libra 2 but with unfinished, unpolished, buggy software. It uses microUSB and has no buttons. Otherwise it provides reading comfort through powerful processor and improved E Ink display. As all Tolino readers, it's primarily aimed at a German speaking audience.

2024. Kindle update improves settings adjustment

Amazon has released firmware update 5.16.7 for the base Kindle, Paperwhite and Scribe. Its goal is to seamlessly improve performance, fix some bugs and bring the device to a stable state compared to the previous, less-than-stellar version, which radically redesigned the navigation settings menu, Date & Time settings and screenshot making functionality. The company also claims the new firmware can improve battery life.
