Kindle Paperwhite vs Kobo Libra

March 30, 2026 | Author: Dhaval Parekh
Kindle Paperwhite and Kobo Libra are both mid-range-to-premium e-readers with high-quality, glare-free display and adjustable backlighting that is minimizing eye strain. Both devices are IPX8 water-resistant and nevertheless compact and portable. Both support touchscreen gestures and offer large storage.

However, Kindle Paperwhite offers a sharper image and its screen feels more like paper. It has thinner screen borders (which is attractive, but holding the device with one hand can be less comfortable due to accidental touches and page turns). The e-reader's interface is simple and stable. Naturally, the e-reader is optimized for the Amazon ecosystem - it's easy to buy books from Amazon and sync them with the cloud and apps.

Kobo Libra's advantage is its physical page-turn buttons - which are very convenient, especially when holding it with one hand. The shape of the case and the side frame make it comfortable to hold and most Libra users appreciate this ergonomics. Libra supports more book formats than Kindle - so you can read free EPUB and FB2 books. Some users find that the typography (how text appears on the screen) is better on Kobo.
