Kindle Oasis vs Kobo Sage

Kindle Oasis and Kobo Sage are both premium e-readers with 300 ppi E Ink touchscreen that supports auto-rotate feature. Both provide adjustable brightness and warm backlighting, have a water-resistant (IPX8) case with physical page-turn buttons, both support Bluetooth for audiobook listening.

However, Kindle Oasis is a client for the (more closed) Amazon ecosystem and its massive bookstore. In terms of hardware, its screen is smaller (7"), making it more compact. The case has an asymmetrical design for a comfortable one-handed grip and is made of more premium materials (including aluminum), making it lighter. The Oasis screen has higher contrast and is easier on the eyes. However, the Oasis is an older model that still uses micro-USB instead of USB-C for charging.

Kobo Sage is a representative of the competing ecosystem - Kobo, which is more open but less rich. Its large screen (8") makes it convenient not only for reading books but also for viewing (and even annotating) PDF documents. Kobo Sage supports stylus that you can use to make notes. It can open more formats (including EPUB), integrates with local libraries via OverDrive and offers the option to store books in Dropbox.
