Kindle Create vs Reedsy
February 11, 2026 | Author: Laura Candler
Kindle Create and Reedsy are both free book creation tools. They're suitable for self-publishing, don't require extensive technical knowledge, allow authors to choose from standard designs or create their own, offer previews before publishing and allow export files in a format compatible with Kindle platform.
However, Kindle Create is a dedicated desktop app for Kindle Direct Publishing and isn't suitable for creating books for competing platforms. It simply imports manuscripts from Word, offers a very limited selection of design templates and lacks built-in collaboration features. However, it can automatically generate a table of contents.
Reedsy is an online platform that works in a browser. It allows to create books in EPUB format, which is accepted by almost all self-publishing platforms and in PDF format - for printing. Reedsy not only allows to format/export books for publication but also - to write books in a clean, distraction-free interface. Reedsy also hosts a marketplace for editorial and design services, where authors can find professionals and tools for online collaboration with them.
