Foxit Reader vs Okular

September 29, 2025 | Author: Maria Lin
Foxit Reader and Okular are both free, cross-platform PDF readers that are lightweight enough and allow to annotate/highlight text, search within a document, set bookmarks and work with forms in PDF.

But Foxit Reader is a commercial program, that offers free version with limited features, while the paid version allows to edit PDF documents, add digital signatures and integrate with cloud storages (including Foxit's own cloud). The program is popular in corporate environments, in particular due to its high speed on Windows.

Okular is an open-source and completely free program developed by the KDE community. It is primarily developed for Linux, but also has versions for Windows and Mac. In addition to PDF, it supports other formats (EPUB, DjVu, etc.). It has a simple, minimalist interface and the ability to export annotations to a separate file.
