CoolReader vs Koreader

March 05, 2026 | Author: Maria Lin
CoolReader and Koreader are both free and open-source mobile e-book readers. They support multiple formats (fb2, epub, mobi, pdf and others), offer flexible text display customization, bookmarks, notes and built-in dictionaries.

But Koreader is primarily an e-book reader for Linux-based e-Ink readers (like Kobo and PocketBook). Its primary purpose is to correctly display PDF books and documents thanks to reflow and margin cropping. It features advanced annotation tools, supports plugins and scripts and allows flexible interface customization.

CoolReader is an Android app. It has simple navigation and interface, launches quickly and is less resource-intensive. It's better suited for reading fiction books in classic fb2 and epub formats without any additional settings.
