Calibre vs Kavita

Calibre and Kavita are both open-source personal eBook Organizers for reading and cataloging e-books. They are desktop applications, but enable web access to the library through a browser. Both support all popular e-book formats and comics|manga for parsing and reading.

But Calibre (launched in 2006) is a cross-platform program written in Python and Qt, which runs on Windows, MacOS and Linux. Its advantage is a large number of plugins and integrations with cloud services (Dropbox, Google Drive, etc.). calibre does quality format conversion, metadata editing and synchronization with e-readers well.

Kavita (a younger program, 2020) was originally created for reading manga and was later expanded to all types of comics and e-books. It works only on Linux and focuses on speed, modern UI and usability. It has advanced filtering, custom reading profiles, user management and progress tracking. Kavita has paid premium features including metadata editing, paid extensions.
