Calibre vs ComicRack

November 26, 2025 | Author: Maria Lin
Calibre and ComicRack are both open-source programs for organizing books and editing metadata. They both work on different platforms (Windows, Linux, Mac), have a built-in reader, a bookshelf interface, search, support tags for sorting books and provide the ability to import and export collections.

But Calibre is an organizer for any e-books. It is a cross-platform (native) desktop software. It has a large number of plugins that implement various functions, but the built-in functionality is also very wide: format conversion, metadata and cover editor, integration with e-reader devices, etc. Calibre contains built-in web-server.

ComicRack is a program focused only on comics. It is a self-hosted system that needs to be installed on a local server and a web browser is used as a client. ComicRack has a special reader for comics - supporting customization, bookmarks and reading history. The package includes an Android app that can be synchronized with the server. ComicRack's interface is simpler than Calibre's and works faster.
