BookBaby vs BookLocker

February 26, 2026 | Author: Laura Candler
BookBaby and BookLocker both help authors self-publish books. They offer print and e-book publishing, provide editing and cover design services and of course help with book selling. They charge a flat fee for their services, rather than a percentage like traditional publishers. Authors retain the rights to their books.

However, BookBaby distributes books through Amazon, Apple Books and other major retailers, offering comprehensive turnkey packages, including marketing, PR, Print on Demand (in the US) and warehousing. The platform does not retain royalties from sales after the package is paid for.

BookLocker is itself an online store for cheap books and offers distribution exclusively through it. It is a more budget-friendly option for aspiring authors. It doesn't push expensive marketing services or require large service packages, while offering more personalized support and assistance with copyright protection. Print on demand is available without a mandatory print run.
