Audible
Audible is Amazon-owned online audiobook service that allows users to purchase and listen to audiobooks through its iPhone and Android apps. Books cannot be purchased individually - they are available through a subscription (starting at $15/month), which provides users with "credits" that can be redeemed for content monthly. The library includes over 200,000 audiobooks across all genres, including exclusive works. Once purchased, a book remains in the user's library and can be downloaded or listened to at any time. The app allows offline listening, adjustable playback speed, and sleep timers. Car mode is also supported.

So, instead of customers giving money to a large service like Audible, they are providing necessary revenue to their local bookstores.
Audible vs Libro.fm in our news:

2026. Audible to reward users for listening audiobooks

Audible has introduced Audible Rewards, a feature that rewards users for their listening habits, offering exclusive privileges, discounts and game challenges. Rewards are given for days during which users listen for at least five minutes, for listening to a certain number of books over four months or for listening to a challenge (such as the Harry Potter series). Program members also get rewards for inviting friends. Audible Rewards will initially be available to users in the US on iOS, Android, the Audible website and Amazon.com, with plans to expand to other marketplaces in 2027 and beyond.

2023. Audiobook platform Libro.fm allows to support local bookstores

Libro.fm announced the launch of a new program in the UK, New Zealand and Australia that allows local independent bookstores to partner with Libro to sell audiobooks. The company claims to already partner with at least 2,200 independent bookstores, which collectively offer up to 400,000 "DRM-free digital audiobooks." Like Bookshop.org, consumers can choose to support a store from these 2,200 independent booksellers by creating an account on Libro.fm. Profits will then be shared with that bookstore every time a consumer purchases one of the following: audiobook, monthly subscription (including one audiobook credit and a 30% discount on subsequent purchases), credit bundles, gifts. By using the audiobook subscription service, Libro is mimicking the Audible subscription format in the US, where each audiobook costs one credit.
