Adobe Reader vs Microsoft Edge

November 02, 2025 | Author: Maria Lin
Adobe Reader and Microsoft Edge are both very popular PDF readers. They are very fast, lightweight and allow to print documents, zoom in and out, search text, add annotations and open protected PDFs. Both programs are available free on Windows and Mac.

But Adobe Reader is a specialized PDF reader. It more accurately displays complicated PDF files with forms and layers, supports comments, electronic signatures (via Adobe Sign) and offers advanced access rights management. It's often used in corporate environments.

Microsoft Edge is primarily a browser, built into Windows by default, so in most cases, you don't need to install anything to open PDF document. It allows to open multiple documents in tabs and can sync notes and bookmarks via your Microsoft account. It also supports read-aloud feature.
